? Meet Ernie: Your Next Adventure Buddy! ? Ernie is looking for a forever home where his love for the outdoors and exploring can be fully appreciated. Accompanied by his favorite toy, Moo Cow. Ernie shows a keen interest in discovering new environments and experiences. Ernie is a sensitive dog, and while we are still learning about his unique personality traits, his preference for gentle interactions and his adventurous spirit are evident. His ideal home would be one that can provide stability, patience, and opportunities for him to engage with nature and explore at his own pace. Ernie's curious and explorative nature makes him a perfect fit for someone who enjoys outdoor activities and can provide the loving guidance he needs to feel secure. We believe that with the right companion, Ernie will continue to open up and show the full range of his loving and loyal personality. If you are looking for a faithful friend who is eager to join you in your adventures and be a constant companion, Ernie may be the dog for you! Ernie is a recipient of our Take My Lead Grant, which means he will go home with post-adoption training for FREE! For info, please email Matt at HDRMatt@gmail.com To apply for Ernie: HandsomeDansRescue.org
Meet Percy! Percy is a young and fun guy. He is enthusiastic about training, which is important because he is working on his behavior to make him the best dog he can be. He is part of Handsome Dan's Rescue's Shelter Dog Enrichment Program where he is matched to a Shelter Dog Enrichment Specialist for training and more. Percy appears to be potty trained as he only goes on the exterior portion of his kennel and immediately goes when brought outside, that said, we can't be sure. We have not tested him with other animals but if I had to guess I would say he might do well with another dog. We are happy to facilitate a dog meet and greet at the shelter if you already have a resident dog. Percy is that beautiful mix of brown, brindle, white and light tan. It's a very unusual look that adds to his charm. To apply: HandsomeDansRescue.org We are still getting to know Percy, so check back for updates or contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Our boy Bosco is a total love. He is the kind of dog who melts into you and waits for you to produce endless scratches and rubs. I suspect he might do well with other dogs, but we can facilitate a meet and greet at the shelter if an applicant already has a resident dog. Bosco could use a big space where he can stretch those long beautiful legs, and someone sturdy enough to walk him. To apply to adopt: HandsomeDansRescue.org If you have questions, please email email@example.com To apply, email firstname.lastname@example.org
Dolly is a total peach. She's a pocket pit, also called a micro bully, but that is not an option on Petfinder so I selected the two closest breeds. She was dropped off at East Providence Animal Control with badly infected ears but is receiving the treatment she needs and is doing much better. Dolly is not a fan of other animals so she will need to be the only pet in the home. Dolly is 36 lbs, she has had a few litters so it's difficult to guess an exact age but I am guessing she is three. She is so sweet and snuggly, potty trained, well behaved. Dolly's ear infections were due to allergies, and the vet tells us she will always be an allergy dog so we need an adopter who understands that will need to be managed for life. But that's ok, she's worth it. To apply for Dolly please email email@example.com Thank you for choosing rescue.
This sweet girl is part of an active cruelty case. We can explain more on that to any interested applicants once she is ready to be officially placed up for adoption. When she first arrived, she was confused and frantic, but after months of love and care, she has blossomed. She lives at a local shelter where their most skilled staff has been working hard to help her recover from his past life. She has been granted an HDR Take My Lead grant, which in this case we prefer to be a mandatory part of adoption due to his level of fear, which provides him with FREE private training and group classes once adopted.
Candy big dog in a medium-sized body (about 45 lbs). She will need some training and daily exercise. She is about a year old and very active. She is good with other dogs. That said, she has been granted a Handsome Dan's Rescue Take My Lead grant meaning she goes home with FREE private training with Jim O'Neil of GreatDog! She is not a suitable choice for a home with children because she can play rough or apartment living because she tends to be very noisy when she sees other dogs etc. To apply, go to handsomedansrescue.org Candi is a resident of Warwick Shelter in RI.
Strutting his stuff on the Handsome Dan's Rescue Runway is Zayne, a 9mo pit/husky mix. He is an energetic boy with so much to learn and lots of love and laughs to give! Zayne is working thru his puppy behaviors to become the best pup for his adopters. He is looking for adopters that will continue on with his training so he can keep being the best boy. Zayne is attending Outbound Hounds' weekly training classes with his dedicated volunteer, Rianna. He has lived with a variety of animals on a farm, so we are open to meet & greets with other dogs. He is medium to high energy, so a playful pup and/or an active family would be ideal. We are thinking no tiny tykes at this time though, given his puppy tendencies. Questions? Email HDRRianna@gmail.com To apply: handsomedansrescue.org
Rexie is a young and energetic pup. He is about ten months old and is always ready for an adventure. He would love to be a hiking buddy, to be a running buddy, and would likely excel at agility. Rexie has received a Take My Lead grant to work on some of his over excitement that he is experiencing in the shelter setting which is not ideal for a young energetic dog. We are confident that once out of a shelter, and with some FREE training through his Take My Lead grant from Handsome Dan's Rescue, he will learn to be the best pup he can be. To apply to adopt Rexie: handsomedansrescue.org
Libby is a gorgeous little girl. She is a little shy, but warms up quickly. She will do best in a home without kids and with someone willing to take a little time to build a bond. Libby will do best as the only pet in the home. That is what makes her feel most comfortable. Libby is matched to Handsome Dan's Rescue Shelter Dog Enrichment Specialist who takes her for adventures and is training her so that she will be the best girl she can be when she moves to her forever home. With all the new family’s coming in and making their homes full we are still on the hunt to get this beautiful boy his forever… I know in my soul the most perfect fit home is out there for our Benny and it’s just waiting for him…. Benny is 3-4 years of age. He’s a gentle soul who you can tell does not like to disappoint his person… Benny needs to be the only animal. He is not a huge fan of other dogs and I want to say it’s fear based as he’s unsure what to do. He has been to Handsome Dan's Rescue for Pit Bull Type Dogs training classes with his friend Roger. Roger has also taken Benny to Wilcox park for walks and to socialize him with people and pets and children. Again where benny has shown no interested… he’s actually a little spooked of the bronze rabbit. Which brings me back to saying he just needs his person to trust and one that understands his sensitive soul. I could sit and talk about Benny and his great qualities all day. To apply for Benny: handsomedansrescue.org
This sweet boy is very fearful. He was part of a cruelty case. We can explain more on that to any interested applicants. He will need a very patient adopter willing to continue working to help him trust and habituate to life in the community. We would prefer an only dog home for him at this time. Also we probably won't place him with kids due to his level of fear with fast movements right now. However, we hope with time he will become more comfortable with all of these things. He lives at a local shelter where their most skilled staff has been working hard to help him recover from his past life. He is part of the Handsome Dan's Shelter Dog Enrichment Program where he has been matched to dedicated volunteer Rachael. You can contact her at HDRrachael@gmail.com for questions and more info. He has been granted an HDR Take My Lead grant, which in this case we prefer to be a mandatory part of adoption due to his level of fear, which provides him with FREE private training and group classes once adopted. Please don't overlook him due to his level of fear, It's very rewarding to help such a fearful dog learn to trust.
Harley 2 year old rottie/shepard mix. Harley has been at the shelter for over 18 months. She is a very social and happy girl, lots of energy. She puts her arms around you and gives the best hugs. Ideal home for Harley would be an active individual or family. She does well with larger dogs and older sturdier kids. No cats. She is strong and does pull on the leash, but we’re working on it?. Harley has been assigned to the Handsome Dan's Rescue shelter dog enrichment program and will be attending classes weekly to begin working on basic skills. Any questions please reach out to Judie firstname.lastname@example.org. To apply to adopt Harley: HandsomeDansRescue.org Thank you for choosing rescue!
Meet the boys! They are a bonded pair of senior gerbils and must stay together. They are fun littles guys to watch. They run around their tank and play and burrow tunnels and chase each other. They also cuddle together when sleeping! I took these boys in to foster care when they were surrendered to a local shelter having not been handled, so were difficult to catch and did not want to be picked up. After several months in foster care at my home I can hold Ralph comfortably. Frank does not like to be picked up. But that's ok, being a senior he can do as he pleases. Frank and Ralph have a wonderful set up. I will require a photo of your set up before we can consider them for your home, or an applicant could take my set up and keep it up in the way that I do. After all, these boys deserve to be treated like the tiny kings they are for the rest of their lives. You can email me for info at email@example.com. To apply to adopt: handsomedansrescue.org
Applesauce was one of the almost 300 dogs rescued from a large scale dogfighting case in South Carolina. He is a fearful guy who is just now learning what it's like to live in a home as a pet. We will change his bio when we feel he is ready to be placed up for adoption. We are not taking applications at this time. Follow him at #applesauce #ourapplesauce #mrapplesauce and #crisscrossapplesauce
