Meet our Adoptable Dogs
From time to time our website has problems displaying our animals available for adoption at Petfinder. If there are no animals displaying on this page, please visit Handsome Dan’s Rescue for Pitbull Type Dogs at Petfinder directly to see Available Animals. Thank you!
Lilly has had a really tough last year and a half, but we can fill you in more on that later. For now, you need to know that she is absolutely perfect. She is potty trained, super well behaved in the house, knows sit, down, stay, and paw, walks relatively well on leash. She met a kitten who she kissed immediately (see photo). Lilly would make a great family dog, she is very easy, one of the easiest foster dogs I have ever had and I have fostered over 300! She is an adorable mix of lab, shep, and pit, we think, but she pretty much acts like an affectionate little shadow. She is medium to low energy and wants nothing more to snuggle on the couch. Sadly, when we met Lilly she had a massive tumor on her chest. That was removed and the pathology results told us it was a mast cell tumor, grade two. She had two mast cell tumors removed in 2020, and has a small one on her back right now. Her liver and kidney values are good so there is not reason to suspect she has additional tumors inside of her body. But Lilly will continue to have these mast cell tumors pop up, and they will continue to need to be removed. It's just who she is, it's part of her, but does not define her. Due to this, she will need an adopter with the means and willingness to have any new tumors removed as necessary. To apply to adopt Lilly, please fill out an application at handsomedansrescue.org. If you have questions about Lily, please email Matt at firstname.lastname@example.org. Seriously, this is one special dog. Don't let her medical needs scare you off. She is beyond worth it!
Beanie is a very old, very sweet resident of Pawtucket Shelter. She is looking for a soft place to land where she will be spoiled for the rest of her life. She is super happy and spunky, but also ready for a rest after some excitement. To apply, please go to handsomedansrescue.org
Nova is a very playful 2 year old gal who loves to run and play ball, but don’t let her fool you, her favorite game is really tug of war. She is dog friendly and would love another active playmate, as she’s a spunky girl. If you don’t have a shadow she’ll definitely be yours and she’s generous with her kisses! Nova loves hot dogs and is very smart; she knows several commands and is a good listener. She’d love to hear what you have to say! She will steal your heart for sure, especially if you love a playful babe whose sole purpose is to make you smile. Questions? Lovely luna- a slightly middle aged pibble who adores playing, romping outside, snuggling, and water. She’s an absolute goof In a baby pool. She loves people and other dogs and is very socially affiliative. Fully house trained and very quiet. Luna comes with FREE private training and group classes. She is has some fear around having her paws touched, but it's a work in progress and her trainer, Anya, will help Luna and her adopter continue that work. Due to this issue, we are saying no small kids for Luna. For questions please email Holly at firstname.lastname@example.org To apply: handsomedansrescue.org
More info to come...
Mugsy is a young, boisterous pup who needs someone who will entertain his level of energy - both human and dog! He loves other dogs and we feel he may do best with another one in the home who matches his energy. Young kids may be out though, as he is a bull in a China shop at times. Mugsy is a puppy, so he does have a lot of learning to do! Luckily he comes with post-adoption training at Outbound Hounds Pit CLASS! To apply to adopt Mugsy: http://www.handsomedansrescue.org/adoption-application/
Snickers is a playful one year old Plott Hound who enjoys chasing a good tennis ball (or 3) as much as he loves affection from his people. If he’s not chasing down balls or working on his treat puzzles, you can find him snuggled up with his person, dishing out dog kisses in exchange for noggin pats and belly rubs. Snickers is an active dog, and while he could definitely double as a part-time couch potato, he’d really enjoy a home where he will get regular exercise. He loves walks and with those long hound legs, he’d make a great running/hiking partner with some practice. Snickers is working on some manners so for now, no kids would be best. Snickers must be the only pet in the home. He’s as sweet as his name, and a goofball at heart. Looking to adopt? Grab a Snickers! Adoptable Snickers would like to talk about his love language, hoping that this guideline will help him find the right home: Words of affirmation: “Great job catching that tennis ball!” Acts of service: “Let me get that tennis ball for you.” Receiving gifts: “I brought you tennis balls.” Quality time: “Let’s play fetch with your tennis ball.” Physical touch: “I will give you noggin pats while you chew your tennis ball. Meet adoptable Winter!! She is a total cuddle bug and LOVES people, but not a fan of other doggos or critters, so she needs to be an only pet! She SO SOFT and will find a way into your lap (and heart). At training class with Outbound Hounds we are focusing on concentrating when there are other dogs around…while she is very smart and knows several commands, she gets distracted when she sees other dogs. She is more motivated by love and affection than by food/treats. She is moderately active, and will stop to ask for some pets and attention during walks ? all this to say, you’ll love her. Written by her Handsome Dan's Rescue Shelter Dog Enrichment Specialist, you can email Randelle at email@example.com with any questions.
