Thanks for Reaching Out
We value your interest in Handsome Dan’s Rescue. We are only able to succeed in carrying out our mission with the help of you – our valued supporters! Please help share our message!
In recent months, we have become overwhelmed with the number of messages and emails that we receive daily. Please be patient in waiting for a response, as we are primarily a volunteer-based organization. We will try our hardest to get back to you within a few days!
In the meantime, take a look below for responses to some of our most commonly asked questions and requests. Because we receive so many messages daily, if you have messaged us about one of these topics, we may not be able to personally respond to your message. Please understand that we do our best to make sure that all of our supporters are able to find the information and resources that they need!
Did you find a lost dog?
If so, post flyers around the area, on various lost and found sites in that community, and on social media. Don’t forget to get the dog scanned by a veterinarian office or clinic that has a reliable scanner as many pets are microchipped. Contact your local shelters (city-run and privately operated in the area), hopefully the owners have contacted them already. Please know that most people will continue to look at shelters for their lost pets!
Rehoming a dog?
Handsome Dan’s Rescue is only able to take in dogs from our local Southen New England shelters and in the case of organized dogfighting cases either through our national rescue partners or in cases where we assist. We DO NOT take owned pets from individuals. We do NOT have the capacity to do so. Please understand this policy. If you need to rehome your pet, there are 4 rescues/shelters in RI that may take some owner surrenders, provided that they have space. RISPCA in East Providence, Potter League in Middletown, PARL on Elbow Street in Providence, and Animal Rescue RI in South County. You may also wish to utilize this EXCELLENT ReHoming Tool provided by Adopt-a-Pet.
Are you interested in adopting or learning more about an HDR dog, or one from our Shelter Enrichment Program?
